This is a vectorised revision of a vexel piece I submitted a while ago and originally made even longer before that. I'm kind of worried about the placement and style of the text, but I'd love to get some opinions on the image as a whole, really.

Anyway, I was "inspired" to make this while walking home from school after band practice. I saw my shadow and things sort of went like this:

I see my shadow on a fence and my tired brain hacks and sputters into life.

"Hey, this would make a good concept for a piece when I get home!"

One hour later, the image completed...

"FFFFFFUUUUUU--"

Well, things don't always turn out as we might like them to. This update made it a little closer to my original intent, which is good. ^^

(Probably should've just moved the old piece to scraps instead of deleting it. Oh well.)

Are the proportions of the silhouettes opposed to the text okay? What do you think of the text placement/style? What about the colours used?

EDIT
Thank you all for the abundance of favourites and collections on this piece! I should thank each person who :+fav:'d this personally, but I've really been buried under feedback messages for the past few days (goodness knows why), and, well, I'm a lazy bastard. Instead, I offer you all the sheer goodness of a rainbow wave!

Yeah, the shadow looks a little off, but I scarcely noticed it until taking a second look at it. It's been years since I took a graphic design class, but I like the overall balance the lettering placement gives to it, the capitals and bolded letters on the bottom accentuating the message and causing the eyes to linger, look at the diverging shadow, unity of the color between text and image assisting in directing the focus of the viewers.

It's the kind of image I'd like to have on a bumper sticker, or a T-shirt. Well done.

Yay, another comment! :eager:

<cough>

Err, I mean, uh... Yeah, I was going for something like that -- a logo-ish design that'd be suited to being displayed on a t-shirt or a poster, or something along those lines -- rather than a stand-alone piece of artwork with more proper shading and details. (thatandisuckatthis.) Maybe I pushed the whole "Keep It Simple, Stupid" mentality a bit far; after all, the silhouettes all have the same practically military, straight posture, which doesn't really help express individuality, after all. I'll need to practice some more with vector shapes before I can play around with it on that level, though.

About the shadows, do you have any tips that could go towards improving them? I know that they're not great, but I'm kind of stumped as to how to make them better. Really, any impressions would be great; I'm not used to working within more rigid confines than those afforded by bitmap formats, and I'd really love to improve on what I know and what I can do with vector formats, given the advantages they offer. (Near-limitless possibilities for size = Unconditional love.)

Oops, I'm babbling on again. Sorry! Thank you so much for the commentary, and the favourite. It means a lot! :)

Oh, absolutely! I think it's kind of cool that you find the design good enough to actually be put to that kind of use. Just let me know if there's something you need for it, and I'd be glad to do what I can. :)

Oh, right, and thanks for the comment, too! ^^;

Sure, that's no problem at all. Let me know if this is all right: [link]

(I was hesitating over the copyright bit, because it is kind of a useless addition to begin with -- it's usually very easy to just cut it out in pretty much any graphics editing program without leaving any evidence of the modification -- but, in the end, I put it in anyway because I feel like it kind of balances the layout of the design. Let me know if you want it gone and I'll take it out. After all, if someone takes a piece of mine and claims it to be their own, well, they could've picked a better artist to "steal" from. But then, I digress.)
